Read and Remix #9: Past Classes
For this blog, I decided to focus on reviewing which genres past students created for project three as a way to get a better understanding of what I wanted to do for my own project. Many students chose to create social media accounts for the community of their choice, which I thought was both unique and effective given the prevalence of social media in our daily lives. Additionally, posters and blog posts were fairly common and seemed to allow the student to convey a message to/about their community while still maintaining their clear opinions. Observing past student’s blogs also helped calm some of my worries about which genres I will create for my third project, given that students had a diverse array of communities and almost all overlapped in some way with which genres they implemented. I also took this assignment as a chance to discover how previous classes best approached the organization of their site, since it counts as our final portfolio and should best represent the work we’ve done all year. It became clear that most students organized their blogs similar to mine, with separate pages for each project and another for blogs. Again, this helped calm some of my worries about whether or not I was organizing everything I’ve done all year in a manner that is functional, easy to interpret, yet still creative.
