initiation

Nearly six weeks after receiving my bid, it was finally time for initiation. I had completed the Nu process successfully, including interviewing all of the sisters, creating a service and fundraising project, and passing the final exam, which included the history of DNZ and Greek Life, including all of the active sisters within the sorority now.

Initiation was fairly standard for a sorority. We had to wear a white dress, and were led into a candlelit room and placed in front of our bigs, who recited a speech in order to "present us" to be initiated. We then walked around the room and listened to the president speak about the values DNZ stands for, and were given three symbolic pieces: a flower, candle, and our sister pin.

While initiation was a very cute and symbolic process, I really appreciated what happened after. My big was very sick that week, and had to cancel our dinner plans at the Melting Pot. Fortunately, she rallied through and felt well enough after the ceremony to take me to Bruster's for ice cream. she told me that this is where her big took her after she was initiated, and wanted to carry on the tradition. We spent the rest of the night chatting and gossiping as usual.

Initiation was a really exciting and prideful night for me. I was so proud of myself for making it through the BUSIEST six weeks of my life, and for choosing to rush such an amazing sorority that I am so proud to represent. In speaking with my big over ice cream, we discusses how fun the next few years will be, and how we are the perfect contenders for the cutest big and little award, which will be presented at formal.

My rush experience

DNZ's rush is nothing like I expected, in a good way. It began on Monday night, ended on Friday, and never lasted more than 2 hours....
